We’re getting ready for this year’s Indigenous Peoples Day at First Americans Museum, and we’d love to have you be a part of it! Applications are now open for our annual Indigenous Peoples Day celebration on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 10am - 4pm.
Every year, nearly 3,000 people come through FAM to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day. From the Oklahoma City Mayor’s proclamation to live music, dancing, Indigenous games, art, food, and hands-on activities, it’s one of the busiest days on our campus.
This year’s theme is Sovereignty in Motion, celebrating the many ways Indigenous communities create, move, connect, and carry culture forward.
There are lots of ways to get involved:
Know someone funny in your department?
Encourage them to sign up for a Lightning Talk! These are quick, lighthearted, five-minute talks. They can be funny, interesting, random, serious, or a little bit of everything. If someone in your office has a story or idea they’re always talking about, this might be their moment. "How to outrun a rez dog" "How to always beat auntie at bingo"

Create art? Know an artist?
Our Chalk Mural Contest is back! Selected artists will create 10-by-10-foot murals in the FAM courtyard inspired by Sovereignty in Motion. There will be three $500 awards.
Have something to share?
Do you make regalia, beadwork, shawls, baskets, or other cultural items? Are you a dancer, storyteller, artist, or someone carrying knowledge you'd like to share? We’d love to hear from you. You can apply to present a demonstration, performance, or lead a hands-on activity - whatever you're comfortable with!
Represent an organization or community resource?
We’d love to have you host an information booth and connect with visitors throughout the day. This year, we’re focusing on connecting our visitors with Tribal Nations, nonprofits, and community organizations rather than having artisan vendors.
Tables are already filling up, so if you’re interested, don’t wait! You don’t want to miss the busiest day on FAM’s campus.
Work in media, communications, or marketing?
We’d also love to work with you! If you’d like to be on site, cover the event, connect with our team, or work with FAM on something leading up to Indigenous Peoples Day, you can request that through the same form. We’re happy to hear what you have in mind.

About First Americans Museum​

In one place, visitors experience the collective histories of 39 distinctive First American Nations in Oklahoma today. The 175,000 square foot museum, located in Oklahoma City’s new Horizons District, showcases state-of-the-art exhibitions in First American history, community events and educational programs, a restaurant and café offering unique Indigenous-inspired cuisine, a multi-purpose theater and a museum store featuring exclusive items created by premiere First American artists.
