The Little Colorado River (LCR) Goerge is a dramatic canyon on the northern side of Arizona, stretching over 50 miles and plunging depths of up to 3,000 feet. Visitors can experience a deep, narrow gorge were the cliffs come alive with vibrant shades of red, orange, and cream colors. The fine layers of limestone and sandstone catch the sunlight, creating a tapestry of colors textures along the canyon walls. Scenic viewpoints offer breathtaking views of the gorge with cliff-edge vistas that rival Grand Canyon’s East Rim- without the crowds. that serves as a popular stop for travelers exploring the region on their way to and from the East entrance of the Grand Canyon National Park.

From a picnic ground and overlook, this Navajo Tribal Park offers visitors a fantastic view of the deep narrow gorge of the Little Colorado River. The finely layered upper limestone cliffs contrast with the massive sandstone below, evidence of a shallow sea that existed in this desertscape some 250 million years ago.

The Little Colorado River begins at Mount Baldy in the White Mountains of Arizona and makes its way northward to St. Johns, Joseph City, Winslow, Wupatki National Monument, and Cameron before reaching the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

SHADOW MOUNTAIN VIEWPOINT
Located just miles West of Cameron, AZ on Highway 64. The viewpoint offers short paths leading from parking areas to the blue-railed viewing platforms hovering over more than 3,000 feet/914 m above the riverbed. Interpretive panels explain the geology and the Dine’ cultural ties to this rugged landscape.

Local vendors selling authentic Navajo jewelry and crafts. You are welcome to purchase jewelry created by local vendors who set up near viewpoint ramada space.

ADMISSION
Park Entry Fee to the Overlooks: $5 per person.

National Park Passes are not accepted, as we are a Navajo Nation Tribal Park and subject to Navajo Nation Laws.

BACKCOUNTRY PERMITS
$25.00 per person per day.  Additional fees may apply.

Permits are issued upon request at the Cameron Visitor Center and at all Navajo Nation Tribal Park locations.
