The Utes do not have a migration story. The Utes have always lived here in the mountains. This is the Ute Creation Story as told by Alden Naranjo, a revered Southern Ute Elder and a member of the Mouache and Caputa bands.

Southern Ute Indian Tribe owns approximately 300,000 to 307,838 acres of tribally owned land within an exterior reservation boundary that spans about 677,000 to 700,000 acres.

EXECUTIVE OFFICE – MISSION STATEMENT

The Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Executive Office will ensure that all departments within the Southern Ute Tribe operate within established policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the Southern Ute Tribal Council.

The objectives are to provide fair and equitable administration of the day-to-day business, ensure the fiscal budget is utilized in a responsible and fair manner, and emphasize and reflect the culture and tradition of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.

Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum
We offer interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for all ages. In the summer, we offer cultural programming every Wednesday from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

Sky Ute Casino Resort
The Sky Ute Casino Resort offers hotel lodging and RV camping, gaming, dining, meetings and banquets, entertainment, concerts, boxing, bowling and events.

Sky Ute Fairgrounds and RV Park
The Sky Ute Fairgrounds and RV Park hosts the annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair and Powwow, rodeos, horse and cattle shows. The RV park has 64 full hook-up sites with shower and laundromat.

Sun Ute Community Center
The SunUte Community Center offers a 5,000 sq.ft. fitness center, swimming pool with 75 ft. lap lanes, gymnasium with two high school regulation sized basketball/volleyball courts and rock climbing wall, softball/baseball fields, archery range, and play park.

Lake Capote offers camping and fishing.
