ABOUT SHABBONA LAKE STATE PARK
Located in northern Illinois, the park centers around Shabbona Lake, a man-made reservoir completed in the 1970s to provide fishing, boating and outdoor recreation opportunities. The area is named for Shab-eh-nay (Chief Shabbona), a respected leader of the Potawatomi Tribe who worked to maintain peaceful relations between Native communities and early settlers in Illinois during the 19th century. Today, the park welcomes visitors with a peaceful natural setting where lakeside recreation, camping and wildlife viewing are popular activities throughout the year.
